To ensure the X-Analytics Application remains current and produces reliable outcomes, the X-Analytics Research Team aggregates and analyzes historical and cyber risk intelligence data to calibrate backend variables within X-Analytics.
This update includes:
Threat: Since the last update, threat activity increased by 4.6%. This increase in threat activity is causing an increase in cyber exposure for most customers.
The increase in threat activity is based on an analysis of threat activity amongst the industry baselines.
Crimeware (including ransomware), Everything Else (including unknown and unclassified events), and Denial of Service Attacks are the top three threat categories (in order of most likely to least likely).
The increase in threat activity is mostly related to increases in denial-of-service attacks, exploitation of unpatched software flaws, zero day attacks, and cyber warfare.
Data Breach: Since the last update, data breach probability decreased by 1.4%. This decrease in data breach probability is causing a decrease in data breach cyber exposure for most customers.
This decrease is partially due a decrease in hacking activity and a decrease in third-party related data breaches.
The average size of data breach remains between 100k and 200k records.
Business Interruption (Other): Since the last update, business interruption (other) probability increased by 3.9%. This increase in business interruption (other) probability is causing an increase in business interruption (other) cyber exposure for most customers.
The increase in probability is partially related to complex architectures, unscheduled maintenance, and application components that sit outside of the development team.
Business Interruption (Denial-of-Service): Since the last update, business interruption (DoS) probability increased by 4.8%. This increase in business interruption (DoS) probability is causing an increase in business interruption (DoS) cyber exposure for most customers.
The increase is partially related to the increasing digitization of businesses (automating attacks are easier), political unrest, and ransom-based attacks that fuel attackers to attack for longer durations.
Ransomware: Since the last update, ransomware probability increased by 0.3%. This increase in ransomware probability is causing an increase in ransomware cyber exposure for most customers.
The increase in probability is partially related to an increase in unknown vector attacks.
Additionally, ransomware extortion increased by 0.3% since the last update. This increase in extortion is partially related to attackers modifying their negotiation tactics and combining the threat of data exposure if the extortion is not paid.
Misappropriation: Since the last update, misappropriation probability increased by 2.9%. This increase in misappropriation probability is causing an increase in misappropriation cyber exposure for most customers.
The increase in probability is partially related to an increase in asset misappropriation schemes, AI impersonation, and business email compromise.
